June is home to three birthstones: alexandrite, moonstone and pearl. Although technically a gem and not a stone, pearls are distinctly different as they are organic and form inside certain mollusc species living in water.
A timeless wardrobe staple and as well known as diamonds, pearls have a serene allure that is just as appealing by itself or when paired with more exuberant stones. White pearls have long been associated with purity and innocence and were, therefore, traditionally given as wedding gifts. Particularly, they're given on the 3rd and 30th anniversaries.
